You won't find Superman, but you might find a taxi driver called Clive who can smell if a dog is pregnant from 100 yards. They are normal people who are born with the ability to do things that are really strange. Those with supernatural powers in The Rook are not all super strong, or able to turn invisible. Here are the questions that The Rook asks: if magic is real, why would it make any sense? Why do superheroes always have such conveniently useful powers? Why are we so limited in our imaginations of the supernatural? What The Rook is, is a very tight, very funny, and very modern urban fantasy. Would you read that?
